Some Sweet News
by Lesa
We haven't posted for awhile. We didn't know what direction Sweet Plates was going. You see, we made 52 sweet plates together. We spent hours and hours going to second-hand stores, antiques stores, and Deseret Industries. We found candle sticks and plates. We spent hours and hours getting ready for our first show. We sold some plates at our first show. Then we decided to open shop and sale the rest of our plates on big cartel.
That would have been great, but we ran into some stumbling blocks. First one. As the plates are fragile, it costs a lot to package them up and ship. The shipping cost is as much as the cost of the plate or more. Next, we worried that our plates would make it safely to their destinations even with our careful packaging. Kendra and I talked back and forth, and back and forth about the direction we wanted sweet plates to go. We sold several at a family baby shower.
We closed the shop because of the reasons above. Then my niece (and Kendra's cousin) came to the rescue because she knew we still wanted to sell our plates. My niece, Jamie, and her husband, are trying to adopt a baby. To earn money for the adoption fees she makes crafts and sell them at home shows. She offered to sale our plates. We were excited as we offered her a portion of the proceeds to go towards the adoption costs. She is keeper of the sweet plates right now. Hopefully, she will have fun selling our sweet plates.
Since making our original 52 plates, we haven't made anymore. We love our personal collections at our own homes and use them on a on-going basis. (There are a lot of sweets and goodies to make!)
I guess this post to let you know that sweet plates has come and gone. But wait. Kendra and I are the kind of ladies that can't sit still when it comes to projects. More news in a minute...
First before I share some news...I want you to know (you readers that I only know through the internet)..that I'm one of the lucky ones. I am a forty-something old Mom with a wonderful daughter. Kendra and I love to spend time together. It is an added bonus that we have a little buddy with us, her daughter and my granddaughter, Sophie Laree. She is just about six-months old. Kendra is a wonderful Mom. She enjoys working hard and playing hard. She has a positive attitude. She is a full-time college student and puts lots of time into her marriage.
Who wouldn't want to spend time with such a neat person?!
During one of our conversations with her she said,
"I just want to create something."
So even though you won't find us posting on sweet plates you can find Kendra over at her newest creation. They are cute, fun, and EASY to ship. It has been fun to watch her come up and work on this new project.
I love and want to create too. I think women have a need to create things. I love this article by Dieter F. Uchtdorf about creating. I have a few projects in mind.
One of my new "hobbies" is to take photos of everyday life. They are not outstanding photos, but they are what I view of the world. I use to have a personal blog (Time Signature) where I spent lots of time working on it and writing, writing, and writing (I still enjoy writing in a personal journal). It took lots of energy for me as I don't feel adequate with my writing skills. I wanted to do something on a more simple nature.
Okay...I'm done writing.
Check out Kendra's shop HERE.
And if you happen to want to take a look of my life through my camera lens, you are welcome to stop by HERE.
On that note, Kendra and I are off later today to get a cupcake at our favorite cupcake shop and window-shop at some fabric stores. And yes, Sophie is coming with us!!
Thanks for coming by sweet plates!
